The Power of the Pause

One minute, just one little minute, can make all the difference.

“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”  -Vicktor Frankl

I want you to remember 2 things today:

  1. You are powerful. 2. Your minutes are valuable.

Being aware of these two factors is life-changing.

What if you stopped and thought about what you were about to say to your child, spouse, boss or friend before you said something you were going to regret? Could that minute make a big difference? You know you can’t unsay what you just said.

Or what about if you paused for just one minute, took a couple deep breaths remembering that you have the power to choose, before you crammed the food into your mouth that you’ll regret later?

Or if you took a minute to consciously decide – do I want to go for a walk or have a coffee break this afternoon?

How could you use one minute to change your life? There is so much POWER in that one little minute. The power to CHOOSE! You have a choice every moment of every day. You have way more power than you give yourself credit for. Falling into victim mode just keeps you stuck. Choose from your power instead.

Amy Cuddy in a TED talk said how you stand makes a difference in how powerful you feel. She says, “Our bodies change our minds. Our minds change our behavior. Our behavior changes our outcomes.” I’ve included the link here to the shortened version — it’s only 6 min so you can see for yourself how this works.

Take a minute or two and stand in a powerful “Wonder Woman” pose, take a couple of deep breaths and consciously choose from a place of power if this is really what you want. And of course this would be a great time to tap, too.

I’d love to hear from you how this helps you in your life. Please make a comment in my Facebook group, A Journey to Love.

Have a powerful day!
